More than 300 million years ago, during the carbonifers era, most of the northern Illinois outside Chicago, which now includes the Mazon Creek fossil site.
Now, researchers at the University of Missouri College and Science are cooperating with the geologist Gordon Barrid to restore Mazon Creek to restore their large -scale reservoirs.

Thanks to decades of research in Mazon Creek, including the basic fieldwork of Barid and his colleagues in the late 1970s, we now have an unusual theory about life along this ancient coast.

A snapshot of ancient life
The original work of the Berrid on the Mazon Creek Fossil site helped separate two large physical gatherings, or animal groups. These assemblies helped scientists understand the ancient environment, where the gossip began. They were a marine collection in the coastal coast waters, and a mixed collection from the river Delta along the coast, where freshwater organisms and washed plants and animals were preserved together.
Now, the Mezu team has confirmed a slightly more important theory about the original results of the BID, using modern data analysis techniques in combination with modern imaging in the X -ray micronous core of the Magazo.
“We have easily found three easily recognized pyloroons, including the unique features of the marine marine assemblies that represent the interim residence between the nearby coast and the coastal areas,” Jim Chef Bowire, Mary M and Harry El Smith, a geological sciences.
“In these ancient environments, specific groups of every animal were dominated. For example, beaches, jellyfish and freshwater animals near marine anamones, and marine words and insects in the interim zone.”
The fossils were formed during the rise of sea levels and the floods that were large coal swamps.
“Different environments have influenced how quickly and deeper the organism was buried, and in what specific geo -chemical conditions, gossip could begin,” said Chef Bavier. “As a result, in its form where some germs lived and helps form minerals that create conflicts around these fossils today.”

Next steps
In current and future research, the chef bavier and the barley are using this information to create a sisters to make a sisters to show how the mazon crack ecosystem is found in the folds of the collateral coal. Where coal mining led to the original discovery of the site.
