Hezekiah’s tunnel re -evaluated

Slum Shaluleh assigned dates and Jerusalem tunnels are questioned

A young boy is passing through the tunnel of Jerusalem, the most famous in the tunnels. This photo brings to mind the discovery of Salom Shilleh, located on the southern end of the tunnel of Hezekiah in 1880, in 1880. Photo: Harsheel Shanks.

A portion of Jerusalem’s water system is located under the city of Hezekiah David. It connects the fresh water supply to Jerusalem – Jerusalem. According to 2 Chronicles 32: 2-4 and 2 Kings 20:20, the tunnel was dug during the era of King Ezekiah of Judah to prepare Jerusalem for the Assyrian attack on Sinacharib of Assyria. In the Bible, Hezekiah redirected the water through the old and newly excavated Jerusalem tunnels. However, many people have wondered if Hezekiah’s tunnel was actually dug at the end of the eighth century BC (Iron Age II). In the issue of September/October 2013 RepetitiveEditor Herschelle Shanks reviews evidence of dating to Jerusalem tunnels. Will Shah Hezekiah be excluded from his tunnel?

The first argument for re -removing the tunnel is related to Salom’s log. On the southern end of the tunnel of Hezekiah, Saloma Shalhli said that the tunnel -digging men worked in two directions – one from the north, the other from the south – and the middle. In Salom Shalhli, the Bible does not have the name of Hazikiah or Sannacharyb first, which will make matters easier. Although most scholars are the cause of the Silem Black from the iron era of iron, John Rogerson and Philip Davis argue that it is actually Hasmunin, which raises the question: What is better for Salom Shillyli?

Hezekiah plan

As described in the Slom’s Shalulih, Hezekiah’s tunnel was dug by two teams, who worked in the opposite direction and met in the middle, to prepare for the attack on Sannacherib. In the Bible, this impressive achievement is in detail in 2 date 32: 2-4.

The second argument fears the amount of time to dig Hezekiah tunnel. Based on a rock type in Jerusalem tunnels, geologists Umayyah Sania, Eli Shilif and Ram Vinbajar claim that Hezekiah’s tunnel may not be in less than four years. Did Hezekiah had time to dig tunnel before the arrival of Sinacharib? In the Bible, it does not specify the amount of time between the risk of attack and the siege itself, but Assyria’s records have highlighted the matter. (I Bible History daily Web special discussion “About recent tips that reduce Salom tunnels”Well -known archaeologists Mir and Jeffrey Chaduk suggested that Hezekiah had enough time to build a tunnel during the uprising against Assyria.)

The final argument depends on the relations of different channels of the water system in Jerusalem. The tunnels were dug in many different periods, which included bronze from the middle age to the other temple.

Ronnie Reich and Eli Shukon, who have been digging the city of David near Jihon Bihar on a large scale, believes that the initial point of the tunnel of Hezekiah was IV, which is connected to the rock cut pond round chamber. The tunnel from the rock cut pond is a place on the entrance of the IV that was smooth for the plaque. The similarities between the plaque and the Saloma Shalhli support the idea that the tunnel IV marked the start of the tunnel of Hezekiah, just as Salom Shilleyl marked the end of it.

Approach

A house built above the rubble filling, which blocked the entrance to the tunnel IV, was found in the round chamber. Some kerosene is the history of the ninth century BC (Iron Age IIA) – which predicts the time of Hezekiah for almost a hundred years. Based on this kerosene, Reich and Shukaron keep the house in the late ninth century or in the early eighth century BC.

Hezekiah-water system plan

In Jerusalem, the water system tunnels – eminent and cross -crossing – are difficult to keep upright, but through their excavation at the underground level of David City, Ronnie Reich and Eli Shakoon have created a map of Jerusalem tunnels. Sloom, or Hezekiah, is connected to the tunnel via vi via. Reich and Sharon believe that the initial point of the tunnel of Hezekiah was in IV.

According to the collecting rules, the tunnel of the tunnel IV and Hezekiah had to predict the house as the debris was used to prevent the tunnel IV under the house. Moreover, if both channels were not excavated, the water would flow into the rock cut pond, and the house would have been under water. On this basis, Reich and Thanksgiving argues that the tunnel of IV and Hezekiah will be built by a predecessor of Hezekiah, in which King Yashish (835-801 BCE) was already developed before the siege of Sinacharib in 701 BCE.

Is Jehoash actually responsible for the “Hezekiah” tunnel?
