In a recent article that is down in July for the sale of BYD in China, my now fellow Jose Ponts asked some point questions: Are we watching “Peak BYD”? “Peak phev”? For his most famous model, the “successive crisis”? After following madness for a while, I thought I could provide some perspectives.
In addition to the song, the first half of the year was the BED’s highest -selling vehicle and the highest sales car in China. BYD’s model lines are divided into different series: historical families -based model names, and model names with sea animal -based model names, princess series, these different series were usually sold on different dealerships. However, the song Plus is an outlet, which is being sold on the Ocean dealership.
In late July, BYD introduced Selen 06. It is primarily a successor in addition to the song, which is presented as BEV and PHEV. It was named to better fit the Ocean dealers who sell it. Salon 06 is a new car in China (not being confused with Seline 6 overseas) with more technology and better devices on a new platform, but with similar prices. The BEV version is also strong, which has RWD and a Frank. Throughout July, the marine dealership was actively reducing the inventory in addition to the song to make a way for salon 06.
Seline 06 sales are still growing, and it is moving to various markets inside China this month, such as Hangzhou on August 7, Beijing on August 10 and Guangzhou on August 13. However, preliminary information outside China already possesses it as the highest -selling vehicle in their class and the second most sale SUV, even before it is available all over the country. As expected, the BEV version is pushing the PHEV version. In conjunction with the rest of the song Plus, which is mainly the previous generation, it is heading towards the upper part of the lists. BYD may continue to sell for a while with Song Song, as Saline 06, as Ram did with 1500 classic, but I expect the volume to move to the new Selen 06 in China.
However, the song Plus Tolling is heading to manufacturing plants abroad, which recently started production or will happen soon. For example, Uzbekistan started production last year. And this is the highest sales NEV in other markets, such as Turkis (as a cell U), which is also a manufacturing plant coming online next year. Singing inside China can be counted on the days of Plus, but it still has the future in the global markets.
In addition, other old models, especially based on 4Third Generation DM-I platform is watching production shifts abroad. The song is to be manufactured in Brazil, where it was the highest sale NEV in the first half of this year. Chisar/Destrier, which showed the list of the highest -selling vehicles in China, recently started production in Thailand (will be sold under several other names).

Overall, BYD is investing more in manufacturing overseas than home. It may not be the company’s latest technology, especially in countries that have technology sharing agreements, but this is an important step in competitive products in these markets. And it is likely to promote the global growth of BYD, which has been abroad this year.
Meanwhile, BYD has not stopped the development of PHEVs. In a meeting with dealers in China, Wang Chinfu said that BYD is in the process of reducing useless models. We have recently become accustomed to the old models of BYD while a large number of new models have been introduced. As the model changes and changes in production, there may be some temporary obstacles, but these changes are essential for the long -term. Looking at August, based on preliminary discussions, I expect another interim month in China, with Selen 06 still changes ramp and other products. September will be interesting.
Overall, BYD sales operate through products. The new product is handling while the old product returns. Although factors like Black PR can have some temporary effect, strong products can overcome it in a long period of time. Last year, BYD had strong introduction and sales of PHEV products. This year, the BEVS has strong product introduction and sales. It is difficult to make sure what will bring next year. Accordingly, with the change in development, there may be more efforts for external markets. But with more than 120,000 R&D engineers and more than any EV intellectual property, I bet the long -term “peak” is below the road.
