Camera Traps shows that an adult man floats at least 1.3 km on an island of Sierra Da Massam Dam in Central Brazil.
In fact, it is possible that Jaguar took two swims nearly. To reach the island will be needed 1 km on a small island, followed by 1.3 km swimming, or 2.3 km directly from the soil without swimming.
“We are conservative by assuming that this cat has used a small island on the way,” says Lindro Silvara in the Jaguar Conservation Fund in Brazil. “In fact, it can be swim in the 2.3 km straight line.”

Silvara says, as far as he knows, it is the longest swimming by any big cat, which has been confirmed directly by evidence. The jaguars are the best swimmers that will also hunt the cayans in the water. However, so far, they have no reports to swim more than 200 meters at a time.
In 2020, his team laid several camera traps around the Sierra Da Massam Dam. In May of this year, an adult man was photographed on the mainland. Four years later, in August 2024, the same cat – which was identified by its separate coat pattern – was recorded by a camera on the island.
This comes when a colored cogueer swim 1.1 km on Squxon Island from the coast of the Washington state, and seeing the Koggis in the area is recommended to swim about 2 km on some islands. Last year, two male lions were also filmed across the Uganda waterway, which is estimated between 1 and 1.5 km. In this case, encouragement was thought of reaching the women who are calling on the other side.
Why didn’t Jaguar make such a long swimming? “This island is relatively small,” says Silvara. “As far as we know, there is no huge victim on the island, which will be a great attraction.”
Jaguar can probably swim a lot. More than 5 km of Brazil is a population on Japuka Islands, which is believed to interfere with the mainland jugs.
