Blog of History – Port structure from ancient ancient found in CorsicaThe excavation of the Cape Caus, located at the uneven northern tip of Karsika, has exposed the remains of a port structure from the 5th century, from the fourth-5th century, a French National Institute for Prevention of Archaeological Affairs. They once exposed large skilled blocks and post bags identified as wooden structures. Archaeologists believe it was a wooden jet.

This solidarity, some of which exceeds 1.50 meters in length, appears to be accumulated in a restless way, without binder, but nevertheless create a very local reproduct card. They are then topped by a thin hydromorphic impulse, which is probably linked to an event of the overflow of the water course, followed by stone surface (shell chips) and slit pussy with 4 to 6 meters wide and 13 meters wide with a length of 13 meters.

The top is with the work of the stone. Photo Courtesy Brace Shivaks, Inrap,This development, which spreads at a thickness of about 80 cm, is thus an expansion of the substrate, against which it is stabbed, and allows the land to be acquired from the edge of the rivers. Little large blocks are positioned on the northern edge of construction and act as support for the structure.

The stone platform looks rough and unorganized, but it was formed and a lot of effort and planning was needed to meet it. The design shows that it was a pier or dock where the boats were pearls and their cargo was removed. Near 100 metal items, many of these bronze nails, which can be used in the construction of wooden superstures, have been found.

The structure was late thanks to the discovery of more than a thousand ceramic pieces found in the archaeological layer. There are very few remains of late antiques in Karsika, so this discovery gives archaeologists a unique opportunity to study the period.
