Curator’s Diary November 2024: Visit the Grand Egyptian Museum

More than 20 years since the first announcement, the first 12 major galleries of the Grand Egyptian Museum opened to the public in October 2024. I was fortunate to visit Cairo next month, so it was booked throughout two days to go to Giza (ok pyramids) to check it. Earlier, I visited the Conservation Laboratories in 2015 as part of a conference. I paid 1200 Lee (then about $ 25) for admission as an non -Egyptian and said brilliant and welcome to the places (cafes are excellent and loose is good). The launch is capable of emphasizing the ‘soft’ nature – so the lack of dhoom dham, which will certainly be the cause. Since even the minor archaeological discoveries get press release, many will be surprised. One of the major reasons for the delay was certainly not just construction complications, but a desire for balloon to add more: this results a lot to see. First: Shobanker, a monument to the entire mini project, a coles of remissions II – and amazing and fully bright. The fact is that it is sown through the building.

The main purpose of the museum was to primarily reveal to Tothankhan. In the Egyptian Museum in Writing Square, the former exhibitions of their tomb equipment have long developed their ‘treasures’ offering in various touring exhibitions, so the update is owed. The point to understand is, in the general order of Pharaoh, the need to give context to Totnakhuman needed to transmit some other important pieces, and the newly opened gallery represents this context. Years ago, I remember a debate about the ‘Grand Staircase’ (open after the last year), which was aimed at ending in the sculptures of Khafo, Khadi and Mancour as the visitors reached the top and saw the iconic vista of their pyramids.

As the ladder felt, it is very impressive, and I admire it that it usually moves historically – before ending with sarcofigi, there is an indication for the purpose of the commonly accepted life of the pyramids. Yes, there are potential risks to the floor, seating and planets that are all made of similar color stones-but it not only gains a reasonable impact as a whole, but also suggests sculpture caps that are present in the temples once.

Everything in the central galleries is about to collapse – and there are thousands of breathing. Here are some well-favored favorite, including full assemblies-such as Dhau’s mother, Queen Hatifer’s rebuned wood furniture, showed together and to take advantage of great advantage. But there is a material that can never be the head of the experienced Egyptian experts, and I gave a hearing in several places when I encountered things that were carefully group, or I neglected in the EMC. In fact, in many ways, Mani is a museum for an Egyptian expert. You will at least need to read something at least before. It relies on visitors to know which families they are, when they were, and where the sites are located (all the common questions I have heard from visitors in the galleries). Maps and timelines are rarely used.

The meaningful arrangements of the fittings should also be clear to those who are not most unrelated: such as the ‘Restoration of Stella’, such as Tatnakhamon (which was easy to touch in an EMC), is shown by its two sculptures, which is a understandable original layout.

Stella Karnak with two of his sculptures. The labels are in English and Arabic.

Once after the opening of the Totnakhum Galleries, I suspect that most tour groups will not have the most energy-it has to take great advantage of it. The Crono Thimatic Vision means that the late and Greco Roman period ends.

Particularly amazing (and probably found) a coffin nest from Lahon. The deceased woman is shown with gold, green and dark skin – the diverse color of the divinity.

Egyptian experts are in the world’s most enthusiastic eyes. Some criticism of the interpretation of semen has already been directed. Leaving the colonial taste of such decisive attitudes aside, it is true that experts are the worst in criticizing other experts. In my view, the interpretation of the semen is diplomatically. It is conservative but has been clearly informed by new research, which brings some display information for more than a century. Due to the delay, the overall design, at least, should be in a part of a decade over a decade – and here a very criminal artist can not be expected. It is important to remember that it is still in the testing phase. There are deliberate spaces left, a gallery has not yet been fully installed on my visit, and the adaptation is clearly possible. But it is better to open up to 90 % of the complete struggle for perfection, which is impossible for museums anyway.

As a museum curator and an Egyptian expert, I was deeply satisfied. He made me emotional. So I congratulate one for making such an incredible content available to the Egyptian and international team (of course an online catalog will be useful for people who are not lucky…). A huge invitation to Pharaoh Antiques in Giza, Giza, is awaiting you.
