Pleasure along with rituals, renovations and nails
By Laura Rani Rai
Think about kicking your heels, sneezing a variety of beer, engaging in heavy carbs, and dancing as a modern trend at night? Well, then think! The ancient Egyptian curve was far ahead of the curve 3500 years ago and beyond. Their piety was burning with festivals, with a special reason to celebrate everyone – a god’s birthday, the honor of men, … “Drunken” pure and easy.
But it was during the summer months, when Nile flooded and brought the earth into life, that two memorable festivals really illuminated the country. Welcome to the ultimate ancient Egyptian summer parties!

The most important and pleasant was included in the Opeat Festival and the New Year’s festival, both were flowing during the summer of Egypt – when the Nile’s fertile flood waters gave rise to the renewal season. These festivals, while separated, were united with the purpose: renewing life, uniting the divine from the ground, and confirming the AAT, or the divine order. He reflected the deep respect of the Egyptians for harmony between the spiritual and the natural world.
Opate Festival: A pleasant procession of renewal
The Opate Festival was a great spectacle of the religious piety, which was designed to revive not only Pharaoh but also the gods themselves. The king of the gods, Amon was in the center of the festival, and this ritual celebrated his sacred marriage with his harmony. This divine union ensured Pharaoh’s continuous jaireable and Egypt’s health.
The center of the festival was around a grand procession where Ammon, Mat, and his sons Bloiso, the sculpture of the moon deity, had taken to the Laksur Temple from Karnak Temple. The two -kilometer route, which was standing with the famous Avenue of the esophagus, was a widespread spectacle filled with music, dance, acrobatics and cheerful crowds. Pharaohs like the Heat Shipst and Ramsis II made sure that the procession was nothing short of unusual, which creates unforgettable moments of divine renewal.
But the Opte Festival was not just for the Royals and the priests – the agricultural expert, who was taking a break from raising his fields during the nail sinking, gathered to enjoy this profit. There was beer, bread, and a whole meal to go here. And, fortunate enough for people, they could even catch a glimpse of the sacred trial when they took action in their Barak shrine. Even better? You can get an oracle! If you had a question, the priest would move forward for “yes” and back behind “no”. Just make sure you gave a good impression on these priests!
New Year’s festival in Dandira: The start of the year at the beginning of the flood season
Now, if the Opeat Festival was not enough to fill the summer, let’s talk about the New Year’s festival. Holding at the magnificent Hathore temple in Dandira, the festival is associated with the rise of Sirius and the annual sinking of the Nile. It was not just about farming. It was a cosmic celebration where divine and ground circles were found.
The goddess of a whole list of halt, love, happiness, fertility, music, and other amazing things took the center. During the festival, his sculpture was taken from a craft of the Temple to the western stairs, where he would receive the first rays of sunrise. This symbolic act represented the unity of the Hathor with the sun deity, not only himself but also the land of Egypt and the people. The return of the statue under the eastern ladder has filmed the cycle of life – always renewed, always returning to his source.
Hajj pilgrims used to travel from far and wide to attend these rituals, and similar events took place in temples like Adpho, where the Horse statue reached the roof shrine. It was a wonderful festival, where the symbol of the spiritual regeneration of this land was renewed by the rays of the sun, illuminating the statues of the gods.
Summer in ancient Egypt: Season of joy and change
The months of the summer, which were marked by the growing Neil, were not just about agricultural renewal – they were spiritual moments of change. Opeat and New Year’s festivals were more than just parties. They were deep rituals that connect gods and people, the locks of nature and human existence.
Heritage and reflection
Opte and New Year’s festivals have been for centuries, ready with new families, but always hold on their main topics of renewal, unity and divine kindness. Today, along with the Nile, the echoes of these ancient events can be felt in modern festivals. When the sun sets on the temples of the sun and Laksur, the spirit of these pleasant days of summer lives on the eternal rhythm of the stream, the stars and the sun, they are once again moving in harmony to renew Egypt.
