China is leading the world in new solar and air installations and doing so at a record scattered speed.
Only in May 2025, the country added 93 GHwats of solar capacity, or about Solar 100 solar panels per second, and 26 GHwats of air capacity, or about 5,300 wind turbines. “The number of wild installations has been possible in the past few years through a rapid growth of this sector and through strong profits, when the rush to install it before June’s deadline,” said Melley Verota in another post on Blueskya.
Although China has already broken the record this year for the new renewable energy capacity, experts expect the growth to slow down the rest of the year. PV Magazine reported a more careful clean energy forecast for the rest of 2025.
“This mass will be followed by this mass of capacity, but it still shows that the solar industry has increased the dramatically low cost and supply capacity,” said Melley Verota.
According to Melly Verita, even if new installations decrease in the rest of 2025, the already already increasing capacity in clean energy production will continue to increase.
China currently emits more greenhouse gases than any other country, but in May 2025, despite the increase in energy demand, the country has seen a decrease in carbon emissions for the first time.
