China is leading the world in new solar and air installations and doing so at a record scattered speed.

Only in May 2025, the country added 93 GHwats of solar capacity, or about Solar 100 solar panels per second, and 26 GHwats of air capacity, or about 5,300 wind turbines. According to the Asia Society Policy Institute’s non -resident senior fellow Lori Melley Verota, who analyzes China’s recent renewable capacity, Laurie Melly Verita, it breaks around one turbine nearly every 10 minutes.

As PV Magazine reported, solar capacity increased in January 2025, approximately 198 198 GW, which increased by 388 % in 2024, one year when China set a record of renewable power installation for the second consecutive year. During the same period in 2025, the country also increased the air energy capacity by 46 GHwat.

For the first time in China, solar and coal investment was also seen in China for the first time. By the end of May 2025, National Energy Administration (NEA) data has revealed that China’s total solar capacity has reached 1.08 terrace, which is equivalent to half of the world’s worldwide solar capacity.

According to Melly Verita, only the new solar and air capacity in the last month can generate electricity like Poland. Sweden; Norway; United Arab Emirates (United Arab Emirates); North Carolina and Maryland (Joint); Or Washington State and Wooming (Commonwealth).

“We knew that China’s rush to install solar and air was going wild but wow,” Milita Varta shared on Blaviski.

We knew that China’s rush would be wild to install solar and wind but wow. Solar panels and wind turbines China are installed in May in a single month, so much electricity will be generally: -Poland -Sweden -Noorway -Noor Carolina and Maryland or Washington & Wooming

“The number of wild installations has been possible in the past few years through a rapid growth of this sector and through strong profits, when the rush to install it before June’s deadline,” said Melley Verota in another post on Blueskya.

Although China has already broken the record this year for the new renewable energy capacity, experts expect the growth to slow down the rest of the year. PV Magazine reported a more careful clean energy forecast for the rest of 2025.

“This mass will be followed by this mass of capacity, but it still shows that the solar industry has increased the dramatically low cost and supply capacity,” said Melley Verota.

According to Melly Verita, even if new installations decrease in the rest of 2025, the already already increasing capacity in clean energy production will continue to increase.

China currently emits more greenhouse gases than any other country, but in May 2025, despite the increase in energy demand, the country has seen a decrease in carbon emissions for the first time. With the increase in record breaking in the capacity of renewable energy, China can reach the rise. Earlier, the country had set a target to reach the rise by 2030.

Can this be the largest climate story of the year? For the first time on record, China’s emissions are falling due to clean energy growth, not the power demand is not slow. Full Analysis + Lori Milevaria: www.carbonbrief.org/… 1/7
