Early medieval Slok boat re -assembled – History BlogConservators have worked together at the Kami -Land History Museum in Kami Pomorski, northwestern Poland, which was discovered in 1984.

It was in the second half of the 12th century and was in use for a hundred years before its death at the end of the 13th century, it was a period when Kami Pomorsky was an important center of trade and government in Pominia’s Dacha. The estimates have kept its original dimensions 12.1 meters (39.7 feet) tall, 2.84 meters (9.3 feet) wide and one meter (3.3 feet) high. Half of its length – only six meters (19.7 feet) – survived, and its width is 2.32 meters (7.6 feet).

During the drainage work, the boat was discovered, its timber is well protected by a water -filled environment. A section of this plow was cut off by a digger during the improvement of the land, before the staff realized that they had received the debris of a historical ship, but archaeologists could remove the surviving part of the plow and to make it a solitude to the swelling.

In December 2022, 38 years after the ship’s discovery, the consumers launched a complex protection program. Oak woods were analyzed, sampled and frozen to stabilize them to handle.

“The work of collecting pieces requires a lot of precision and patience, but the final result-salaw shipbuilding will offer such a well-protected example, effectively,” [Grzegorz Kurka, director of the Kamień Land History Museum] Stresses The director has acknowledged that it is currently difficult to say how long the whole process of collecting the boat will take, but the results of the work will soon be displayed in the museum.

He also emphasized that the rubble is a huge historical value and that it is a source of research on the history of shipbuilding and navigation in the context of the development of maritime relations in northern Europe and in terms of regional Slovic navigation.

The museum’s director says, “The boat could have offered two goals in terms of necessities. It could have been a commercial ship, but it could have been used in the fighting. However, we are leaning towards the idea that it was a commercial ship, which is probably related to a local chief, but it is only our view.”
