Gap Week, November 28, 2025 (Thanksgiving) – A collection of unsolicited pedantry

Hey guys! This week is Thanksgiving in the United States and I have chosen to take advantage of the break in teaching to focus on some chapter revision, so we will return to Hoplites. Next week

In the meantime, if you’re looking for things to read or watch, I have some suggestions.

First, as always, there’s a new one Unfinished paste (with mummies!) which always features classic roundups.

There’s also another video with Roll Konigendijk that examines depictions of ancient Greek warfare in popular culture, in this case taking a crack at some of the scenes. AC: The Odyssey. And I’m glad he’s doing it because I assume it’s delaying the 57-post long bluesky thread he’s inevitably going to write about everything I’m getting wrong about hoplites.

Finally, if you’d rather do a bit of higher education snobbery, I ran across this older Angela Kohler video on the nature of adjusting and linking to it which – during the Depression – is accurate and worthwhile. We should demand that our public higher education be better than this: students deserve teachers who have the time and resources to prepare classes and teachers deserve salaries they can live on and finally the public deserves true scholar-researcher teachers for their money, not overworked, underpaid adjusters (so the money could go to upper-level administration or football coaches instead).

In any case, I hope everyone who celebrates had a happy Thanksgiving and we’ll be back next week with more Hoplites!
