Theresians gave a deep impression on both their neighbors and archaeological records, but how much do we really know about them? Sarah E. Coal and Jane Dahner introduced Matthew Simmands to a secret group of people.

Theresian may not be as famous as the Greeks and the Romans, but they were certainly no strangers to ancient literature. A memorable appearance takes the form of a chemo یدWhere a troop of THRAI fighters arrived late Trojan Kaz. The legendary leader of these Thraracies, Shah Resume, has been presented as a man who knew to make entry. His horse was like white and sharp like snow, while the king’s golden coach was seen as a more suitable dress for God than a human. However, emergency contributions to the fight were less surprising. Many people were killed when they slept through the Greek hero Odisius and Dyomidas, who immediately eliminated the king’s facilities. Although this incident is short, it has captured the features of several stock -related stocks in ancient literature: he was a warrior, rider, metal metal worker worker, and he had an extraordinary knock between two large and competitive powers to find a sandwich. They were also given barbarism, as the Thresians did not write literature equal to their metallurgical miracle. Instead, our surviving sources were written by outsiders, primarily by ancient Greeks.

Thrace can be equalized with some parts of Romania, Greece and Turkey, with a modern Bulgarian. Archaeologists have revealed that the region was really a source of ancient metal works, which included all routes from the seats of the extravagant banquet to the amazing royal portrait. Such antiquities present some highlights of the present Ancient Thrace and the classic world Exhibition at the California Gati Villa Museum (see more information box). It is a part of a series that is dedicated to the Greek, Roman and Atroskin world in context by searching for their relationships with neighboring cultures. Thanks to partnerships with Bulgarian institutions, 14 regional museums have been loaned to content, while other museums around the world have also participated in the goods. The result is the only third largest exhibition dedicated to the Threshe in the United States, and the first on the West Coast. Although the ancient Thrace’s magnificent metal work shows the abilities of its artisans, it also raises archaeological wealth: Who was just Threseen? Any attempt to respond requires cautious weight of historical and archaeological sources.

Viewed from the outside

“The most part of what we know from ancient literature comes from historians and wholesaledides,” says Sarah E. ‘In both cases, we have to be very careful about how we estimate them. Herodotes describing different people and their methods, we are taking the maximum ethnic graphic approach. He also speaks of the military’s military capability, as well as how he practices tattoos as a symbol of great birth, and is a sign of his clothing and customs. Herodotes notes that they are organized in many different tribal groups, and they believe that the failure to organize the thoras is lacking in power. On the contrary, wholesaledides 431-404 provides a historical statement of the Pelopanic war from BC. However, it has a personal relationship with Thrace, because it seems that it is at least partial thorasian lineage and have mining rights in the region. However, when you talk about war events, it highlights a massacre that presents them as a very violent and brutal people. The two authors are coming from a particular cultural point of view, which states that Greece is a very organized, sophisticated and decent society, while those who do not work or see them are chaos, barbaric and inferior. When we look at these sources, we have to be aware of this agenda. ‘

“And still, when we have to be aware of prejudice, our main sources for the establishment of Thrace as a political institution are other Greek texts of ancient historical and different forms,” says Jennis Dehnar, acting senior curator of the antiques at the Museum. “There are also a Threseen Shalih, but we cannot read them. Although combating archaeological balance, it contains space. When we were doing the exhibition together, we encountered it: We tried to find pictures that showed how the Thoserian looks when they offer themselves, but this is not an easy task. Their art has various cultural effects, so sometimes the locally manufactured piece is represented in a Greek manner. In other cases, we find things that are showing the Thraces that were clearly prepared in the Greek world. Therefore, those external views are not only visible in literature. Ultimately, we need ancient sources, because they are the ones who allow us to build history, and we need archeology to tell us how it measures material evidence from the region. ‘

In this evidence, the most famous people should be a living metal, which usually comes from two types of context. There are an elder or royal tomb. While many of these antiquities were robbed, some were sustained and there were gatherings of antiquities that often combine both locally manufactured goods and items in the Mediterranean world. The second context is the Treasury Hards, which produced some of the most excellent examples of metal work from the Theresian area. These include the Walchitran Treasury, the Pingoreshti Group, and the Rogozen Hord. It seems that such sets were deliberately collected and then placed in the ground, apparently to protect valuables during attacks or internal disputes. Fortunately for modern scholars, at least in some cases, any ancient hopes for recovery of these cash were eliminated. Since these hoards were usually buried with tombs, settlements or temples, their ownership and purpose, though, could prove to be difficult.
