Judith: a remarkable heroin

The first half of the first half of the two -part Bible history offers the daily offering

This is the first half of the Robin Galhir Branch’s article, which discusses the role of a remarkable heroine, Judith, of his name. The article was originally published in 2012. Click here to read Part Two.-d –

Judith’s book by Roman Catholic, which was understood by the Protestant by the Apociety of Literature, and the non -Canon by the Jews, is the story of the malicious defeat of the Assyrians at the hands of the Hebrew woman (Judith 13: 14).

Artemisia is hitting the General Holfurns of Judith in the 17th century of Gentiley. Galleria Digley Afzi, Florence.

In fact, the assassination of Holifarnees, the invading Assyria -General – in his own tent, with his own sword, and surrounded by the victorious army before his own victory!

Consider these features:

1. Judith orders, plans, leads.

She enters the book in her name when Assyrians have disconnected the water supply to the city of Bethulia at the tight transit gate leading to Jerusalem (Judath 7: 7, 4: 7). The siege, which lasts for 34 days, has made people hard, thirsty and bitter (Judath 7: 20, 29). Oziya and other magistrates of the town have been subjected to the demands of the people of the city and say they will surrender to the Assyrians in five days-until the Lord is pity (Judith 7: 29-30).

Upon hearing this, instead of going to the leaders of Judith, Bethlehe, they ask for them (Judith 8: 10). The Testing of God (Judith 8: 11-12), it declares that he plans to save Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Temple and people. Refusing to disclose this, she still declares that her process will “go through all the generations of our children” (Judith 8:32). Not only do the leaders listen without any interference, but they also praise it for its wisdom and like all men in this story! His dialect (Judth 8: 28-29). She demands that the doors be opened and that and her maid should be left out of the city (Judath 8:33, 10: 9).

Approach

2. Judith is verb.

Other women in the Bible text include Lady Wisdom (Proverbs 8-9), Abigail (1 Samuel 25: 23-31), Deborah (Judges 5), and songs. Judith is leading them all with two lengthy statements-the first Aziah and the other Betholin Magistrate (Judith 8: 11-27), and the other Holofarnis and Assyrian forces are roaming to look at their beautiful face (Judith 11: 5-19). She prays three times. Once before its adventure begins, (Judith 9), then in a public song in honor of the power to be beheaded (Judith 13: 4-7) and finally slaughtering its actions and slaughter at national events (Judth 16: 1-17).

3. Judith strategy.

In a way, “to attract the eyes of all the men who might see it” (Judath 10: 4), Judath and his maid were standing under the valley at night, which he intended to capture. An Assyrian border was stopped by patrol and was taken directly by 100 men to the Holofars (Judith 10:17), easily revolving a long story in which it is only true that it can be believed.

Claiming to have direct access to God, she promises that she promises to guide the hulfurns and its entire army in Jerusalem through the mountainous country, without any loss of life or so much as a dog flourishes on them (Judith 10: 13, 11: 19). His words please the General and his audience (Judith 11: 20). This is called beautiful and eloquence (Judath 11:23), he welcomed it in the camp and requested to travel through the camp at night, which requested bathing and praying in a spring (Judath 12: 5-7). Thus, at the Aswari camp, this unsafe and unexpected guest bows himself as a bait and waits three days to strike and save Israel.

4. Judith knows his strength over men.

Throughout the book, it seems that Judath is simply smiling and men fall (Judath 10: 7, 14, 19, 23). By appealing to her senses and smell, she reminds them. The weapons of his war are sex and material. She carefully wears clothes, depending on her ability to rely on the success of her corruption and murder plan.

She’s adventures, she eliminates herself with her sack cloth and widow’s clothing, bathrooms and rich aroma, fixes her hair, chooses a festive dress, and a tire as the last touch of her war dress (Judith 10: 3). She receives her dress with rings, bracelets, ankles, earrings, other jewelry, and attractive sandals (Judith 10: 4).

In the banquet of intimacy greedy in the tent of Holoparen, Judath easily sheds light on the sheep, his food brought from Betholia, and flatter it, saying, “Today is the biggest day of my life” (Judth 12:15). She offers such a beautiful picture that Holifernees, who wanders with lust, drinks herself in a unconscious, deadly disappearance (Judath 12: 16, 20).

5. Judith works for joint goodness.

Judath killed Israel’s enemy Holofarnis, a world -class bully that slaughtered his path through Pot, Lud, Rustis and the lands of the Ismailis, the cities with walls with the Valley, and Celeissia. It set fire to the tents of Medentitis and the fields of Damascus (Judath 2: 23-27).

In his tent overnight, Judith beheaded his head with two strokes with his own famous sword – surely first (Judath 13: 4-7)! She wraps her body to the floor, down the umbrella of a jewelry from the top of her bed, gets out of the tent, and gives her head to her waiting maid that puts it in the sack of food (Judth 13: 9-10). Women go through the Surree Lines together, such as on the other night, allegedly praying and bathing.

This time, after leaving the routine of prayer and bathrooms, they go straight to the gates of Bethlehem to the mountain. There, Judith starts screaming (Judith 13: 14)! The doors open and they share their story. She carefully declares to them all that Holofarnis did not make it unclean because the Lord kept it safe. Her face deceived Holofars and brought it down (Judath 13: 16).

Display his head, and there is no doubt that his story is reliable, exposing the jewelry umbrella. Aziah declared that Judath “is blessed by God mostly than all other women in the earth” (Judith 13: 18). This verse, a similar jail in Deborah, echoes the echoes of the murder of Sisra’s murder (Judges 4: 21, 5: 24-26), is important in the Roman Catholicology, as it is also spoken about Mary (Luke 1: 42, 48).
