Nano Particles show the ability to prevent inflammation and stain in alcohol -related liver disease

In the world, more than 1.5 billion people suffer from liver disease. US centers for the control and prevention of diseases have reported that it kills more than 52,000 people in the United States alone. This is the most common cause of death in the nation.

Despite these significant effects on society, alcohol -related liver disease (ARLD) is not largely disturbed by medical research. The purpose of Dr. Jyoti Menon, a researcher at Texas A&M University, is to change her in which she is developing with a new therapy she is developing. The results were recently published Biometls.

“Liver diseases are increasing rapidly worldwide,” said Menon, an associate professor in the field of biomedical engineering, and poses a significant risk of gradually developing a dangerous condition like cancer. ” “Being able to use my technologies to develop an effective solution against this development is running me and pushing this research forward.”

Although the current treatment for ARLD’s attention on alcohol elimination and inflammatory medicines, Menon and his associates at Rhod Eyland University are focusing very much. They have developed microscopic nano particles that are a thousand times smaller than human hair diameter. These safe and biodegradable nano particles can search and connect damaged liver cells. By binding cells, nano -particles help prevent them from developing.

In healthy humans, the liver is naturally healing organs, which is capable of regenerating most of its work, even when 70 to 80 % damage. An important part of this healing process includes immune cells, called kufr cells that protect the liver from infection and harmful substances. In healthy liver, they also produce proteins that promote inflammation in other liver cells.

In chronic conditions of the liver, when the liver damage increases and repeated injuries, the functioning functions of the organs also deteriorate. After that, the liver begins to harm himself inadvertently. Kufr cells, which first fought against inflammation, begin to release protein signals with the opposite effect.

The result is a deadly organ impairment and even deadly liver cancer.

The Nano Particles of the Menon Lab are engineers to prevent this harmful process. Their surface is designed to identify and select the protein found only on the cells in the liver, allowing them to avoid other liver cells. This protein works as a receptor in the cell membrane, receives a chemical signal and triggers cell behavior in response. When it is activated through a nano particle coating, it promotes anti -inflammatory behavior in kufr cells, rather than increasing inflammation and stains. Nano Particles also release anti -inflammatory treatment when they break down, and provide direct medicines to the cells that are needed.

“Instead of leaving the cells that are preparing the tissues of stains, we are going one step back and targeting ourselves cells so that we can prevent them from stimulating other cells in the liver and cause the development of this fibrosis,” said Menon.

The result is much higher than the amount of its parts.

“Individual ingredients have not had much effect on the treatment itself,” said Menon. “But when we set up our final with everything, it reduced the formation of inflammation and lipid drop due to the construction of fat in the liver. It was a combination of all the things that really had an effect.”

Reaching this place was not an easy feat. Since Menon’s team is one of the first people to try such a perspective, there is no research on it to tilt it.

“As one of the first groups to reach anything like that using nano -particle -based drug delivery systems, when we did this research, we had no previous literature to help us know,” said Menon. “The first time we succeeded in confirming that these particles could target the Kufr cells, it was very interesting to us.”

While Menon is currently focused on alcohol -related liver disease, its nano -particle treatment has a lot of applications. The targeted nano particles may be the future of the treatment of the disease in many parts of the body.

“What we have created is a very enthusiastic initial work that shows that this formation can target a certain cell population in the liver to provide therapeutic treatment and have a potentially meaningful effect on the treatment of chronic ARLD,” he said. “Our formulation is versatile, so they can be adapted or modified for the treatment of other types of inflammation and fibrosis in other organs.”
