New York finalized the rule for new buildings

The purpose of these requirements is to prevent the emission from the constructed environment, as the buildings account for 31 % of all emissions in New York.

After finalizing this principle, after a judicial decision in early July, the US district court in the northern district of New York has ruled that the state could move forward to implement the All Electric Building Act of 2023. Building and fossil fuel groups had earlier challenged the Act using the same argument that helped lift the ban on gas in new buildings in Berkeley, California.

“In this case, the court sent a powerful message to the foam fuel industry,” said Don Wells-Cleneburn, Executive Director of Pash Buffalo.

According to Canary Media, the New York Act may still face legal challenges, as industry groups have requested the US Department of Justice to stop it from putting it into practice.
