A rare Grover, a medieval hairstyling device, has been discovered in the Dorne Donn Castle of Dorne, located in the western Hypeson of Scotland. It is one of the only three examples found in the UK, and the first of them is found in Scotland.
This device is of the 13th century and is made of red deer antler. This is the same piece: A widely carved handle that has a hooded personality photography in a book and a two -sized tipped point.
Dr. Blackwell, Middle Ages Archaeological and Senior Curators of History [National Museums Scotland]Said Grover would probably have been part of a seat that included a mirror and a comb.
He said: “Grooier is used to help separate hair and help make hair widely – they are amazingly rare things.
“They originated in France, where the fashion of making wide -haired styles has spread to northern Europe around the 13th century.”
French gurus was usually made of ivory. An example of this is even more unusual that it was a French item made of local material.
The original fort was built in the 13th century at the Small island of Allen Donn at a meeting of three maritime loach. It was a major defense of local Galac Lords against the Vikings, which then controlled most of the area. It reached its largest extent in the 14th century.
This clan became a stronghold of McKenzi, perhaps only in the middle of the fourteenth century, and the fort was the order of a clash of many tribes. McKinziz supported jacketbuts in the 1715 uprising, but was in the state of the palace till then. In 1719, Jacobite supporters and 343 barrels of gun powder were surrounded by the palace. The British grabbed the upcoming air supply from Spain and sent them to stop the warships. They bombed the palace for three days, but even with roofs and nasty, the palace was still against the attack thanks to its extraordinary walls, which is 14 feet thick in some areas. Finally, the English troops went down, defeated 46 Spanish guards, and eventually provoked all 343 barrels of gun power and brought down the fort.
For 200 years the palace was merely a ruin. The present palace was built in the 1920s and its old fantasy Castle beauty and beautiful place have made it a famous Scotland picture, which has been seen in many advertisements, television programs and films.
Some of the original fortresses are left, in the 13th and 14th centuries, alien Donn is known about life. The owner of the palace, the Kancha Charitable Trust, issued a series of excavation to expose more information.
In addition to the gurus, excavations are used in the excavation, game pieces, animal bones, iron jaw necklace and ceramic crucifix, which is used to melt copper, silver and gold. The crucifixion is proof that metal items were manufactured in the palace. Researchers at the National Museum Scotland say it is the most important collection of medieval metal -working tools in the UK.
