Three ancient lamps have been discovered so far in the excavation at the Navy Affairs site near Tel Aviv. Although Vixes may feel like simple, common objects, their properties have found them incredibly rare in archaeological places, especially in older places. This discovery of the Israeli Antique Authority (IAA) thus provides a rare light about light in the ancient world.

The lamp light
The three wicks were discovered in a group of tombs found in the intermediate bronze period (also known as the early bronze era IV. C. 2500-2000 BCE). This dating makes the oldest wox found in Israel the oldest and oldest of anywhere in the world. Researchers were able to identify them as a weekend with confidence, as they were found inside the three lamps, and two showed signs of burning. According to excavation directors, during the preparations for burial and ceremonies, Vix helped illuminate the underground tombs. In addition, it is also possible that the fire already played an important symbolic role within the burial events, possibly even as a stand for the soul of the deceased, as in many cultures nowadays.

The discovery of ancient wax is extremely rare for two reasons. First of all, Vixes are made of organic materials that easily swallow over time. Second, the wick is usually completely burned during the light and thus leaves very few marks. Beyond these features, even when the waxes are preserved, it is difficult to identify them until they are discovered inside the lamp. According to the IAA researchers, Nama Socank and Jonah Moore, “This is a unique discovery that we did not expect can be found in the Mediterranean climate.

Analyzing the wax in the IAA labs, researchers discovered that the three were made of reused fabric fabric, possibly as a method of recycling old fabric. “It is unlikely that expensive textiles like Linn will be made for something designed for combustion, especially.” “According to our analysis, we can create this weeke in long strips made from the textile kit that were curved together. Secondary use of textile indicates smart economic behavior, which used the most valuable raw materials.”
