There is a newspaper headline on my wall that it is announced, “Noah’s box was found in Pennsylvania! Scientists: The Old Testament ship is buried in the mountain edge – and it looks like the Bible says!” There’s a little less one on the same page, “Kitty survives after sucking in a vacuum cleaner!” Now you know where I get most of my news about the Bible, once I finish my Bible reviews.

In recent years, another headline about floods has slipped on newspapers and TV. Two geologists from Columbia University splash when they announced that the symptoms of a large -scale flood flood of the Black Mediterranean 7,500 years ago could be the original. Immediately after that he published a book The flood of Noah About their theory.¹ Recently, a team of marine biologists has announced that there is no widespread floods of the Black Sea, based on the study of sesame seeds in the region’s sea floors. So it seems that the headlines were premature. Noah’s flood is not found in the Black Sea.

But let’s imagine that the first boys were fine, and that there has been a massive flood of the Black Sea around 5500 BC, if anything, what does it have to do with Noah’s flood?

Bible scholars will tell you that the flood story in birth 6-9 (actually stories in most abundance, since two versions in these chapters are made together)² Most directly derived from a real event, but from the stories before. Earlier stories are from ancient Mesopotamia, famous for Gilgamesh Epic (standard Babylon version, C. 1100 BC) and Uttis Epic (Old Babelin, C. 1700 BC).³ In these stories, we learn about a wise person, whose name is Uthayis (later known as Atanthemitium), which God protects by ordering a boat from the Anki Universe flood, puts all the species of animals on it, and protects himself and his family. The box eventually landed on a mountain called Mount Nimsh, which was identified as an impressive mountain in the Kurdish region of Iraq, northeast of Kirkuk. (Our Marines probably now have a couple of pairs through this mountain.)

The Bible version of this old story is the name of Flood Hero Noah, but many details are reminiscent of the Mesopotamine story. In his classic comments about the beginning, the EA Speaker concluded, “It is clear that the Hebrew tradition has to obtain its content from an intermediate… from the source, and that it adjusts the data to its needs and ideas.”⁴ An adjustment was to move the mountain where the ark lands in the north side of a high mountain range, “Mountains of Ararat” (Genesis 8: 4) in eastern Turkey. Most of these mountains are called Mount Arrat today, and it is about 17,000 feet high.

If we want to find a flood that gave rise to the symptoms of Noah’s flood, I feel like we should look for a large flood in northern Mesopotamia, not in the Black Sea. And, really, there is evidence of archaeological evidence for many local floods in ancient mesopotamia, as occasionally floods the rivers and Euphrates rivers. Even a relatively smaller can be destructive if it kills many people in your village, and this local trauma can increase a story and increase, unless it raises the universe proportion. (Compare how the war of the late city of the bronze era in western Anatolia became the Trojan war of Homer, in which Greek gods were also closed in war.)

Many cultures have stories of floods, and it is no coincidence that many cultures are suffering from local floods. Instead of melting the glaciers of the ice age or appealing to the fictitious floods of the Black, these demonstrations are more compelled to integrate these demonstrations. There are stories. Even the stories in the Bible. The best stories, of course, the world, each other, and God (or, for the old Babylon, are a car for deep insights about our relationship. The Bible story of Noah’s flood is an ideal and infinite story in this regard. Even if that doesn’t happen, this is a true story.
