When asked what rights guaranteed the first amendment guarantee, 79 % could name “freedom of speech”, which increased by 2024 (74 %).
“People cannot care about, protect or use their constitutionally secure rights unless they are with them and they cannot understand how effective their system uses the government,” said APPC director Kathleen Hall Jameson. “As a result, urban education should have a high priority at home and schools.”
The day was released for the Constitution (September 17), the national level representative survey also found that confidence in the US Supreme Court is deteriorating, with 6 out of 10 people (59 %) not very few or trusted that the country’s highest court is working in their best interests.

Eliminating trust in Supreme Court
Over the past few years, several surveys have shown a widespread difference between the falling confidence in the Supreme Court and the widespread differences between the political parties in the court views. According to the Annualburg survey, from 2019 to March 2025, the minimum percentage of US adults with moderate confidence in the court has dropped from 68 % to 41 %.
“The confidence has fallen rapidly and polarized,” said Matt Lundsky, a professor of political science, who directed the Democracy Division’s institutions, said. “Even after the previous controversial decisions, like Bush vs. Gore, he is trusting in court. [in 2022]This continues. “
The survey makes a difference of about 60 points between the parties in the Supreme Court. As of March 2025, 75 % Republican and Republican tilt respondents have the least moderate trust, which is more than 69 % in May 2024, while only 18 % of Democrats and Democratic tilt respondents are less than 29 % in May 2024.
“Once the Democrats and Republicans honored the court once, but now it is not,” said Levindsky. “If the court is just another political actor, it loses its special place in our political system, upset the long -term implications.”
Extensive popular support for some of the Supreme Court reforms
When asked about the potential measures of the Supreme Court reform, most Americans are in favor of banning the participation of judges in cases, including their personal or financial disputes (83 %). Creating a formal ethics code for judges (78 %); Mandatory retirement age (72 %); And the periods of the period (69 %). Under the half -section, under other proposals – allowing the public to vote to abolish Supreme Court decisions on controversial issues (44 %) and vote about court size (31 %).
How does the party reform views affect
The bilateral majority are supportive of four possible reforms in the Supreme Court, though they are the differences to the extent that they are in their favor. The high potential reforms supported by members of the two sides prohibit judges from participating in cases that have personal or financial interests, supporting 86 % of Democrats and 83 % Republicans.
In particular, most of the survey responders are not in favor of increasing the number of judges in the Supreme Court, an idea suggested by some Democrats and support is 44 % of Democrats, 15 % Republican, and 33 % independent candidate. A proposal – allows the public to vote for the Supreme Court’s decisions on controversial issues.
Constitution Day
The APPC released its annual citizen survey before the Constitution Day, which celebrates the signature of the Constitution on September 17, 1787. The measures to conduct the education of the citizens of the EPC include Innberg Classroom, which offers free resources for the constitutional education, and the Sox Renuel Network, dedicated to 46 non -profit organizations, is dedicated to non -profit organizations. The new resources include mutual cooperation with the Constitution Day Hub website and Anneburg classroom film “Balance State and Federal Power: Constitution Trade Clause”.
For the APPC’s Leonorenburg Institute for citizens, “strengthening citizens’ knowledge about the US constitution is important for the long -term health of the country’s democracy.
The Enlieberg Constitution was developed by Lundsky, Jameson, Holbert, Research Analyst Sean Patterson Jr. and APC Managing Director for Survey Research, Ken Winning.
