After living in Queens for more than two decades, I always wanted to go to the nearby US Open tennis championship, but it seems that there is always something. Last week, I finally drove it out for a fan. I was able to see intense qualifying matches and some of the best players in the world like former champion and local phenom Naomi Osaka.

However, beyond all the proceedings in the courts, I was also interested in what efforts were being made in this high profile event to be environmentally friendly. Given the green steps on your website, the list is very broad to go into detail here. From effective LED certified stadiums to recycling, the importance of the efforts made to reduce environmental impacts must be important. However, its implementation was even more impressive.

Transport

It’s easy to get there. Move 7, get to the Mattis Wheat Point Station, walk the opposite direction from the City Field, and you are there. As an alternative, LIRR trains and buses are also stopped there. Not only is it possible for a large -scale transit of electricity here, it is often faster, more convenient and less expensive than $ 40 parking fees.

For a major direct program with international participants, some air travel is essential. However, hosting the event at a major international center not only increases the convenience but also reduces air travel. A substantial part of the total emission of air travel comes from take -off and landing. By reducing the number of traveling stops by using the more direct path and reducing the distance, the emission can be significantly reduced. If I am planning a major direct program and trying to reduce carbon emissions, choosing a large -scale transit and direct flight location will be an important consideration.

Reducing waste

The only use was a clear attempt to eliminate plastic waste. Food packaging and napkins are made of compostable recycled paper, often with environmental messages. There was a ticketing paper equipped, with honorary mobile chargers available for borrowing, making sure that people still have considerable compensation to get into the events.

Product samples and plastic cutlery were prepared from the PLA PLA. PLA (or poly latchic acid) is a polymer of the same chemical that wounds your muscles after lifting weight and making the yogurt taste a taste. It is still a thermo plastic (often used for 3D printing), but not all plastics are made equal. The PLA is derived from carbohydrates in plants, instead of petroleum, and it avoids many problems found in other plastic. It is not perfect and does not break down in low temperature or low oxygen levels. However, it is a municipal compost in the hot, oxygen -rich environment of commercial compost, and municipal compost in New York City.

Cocktails were presented in souveniya plastic glasses that were quite quality that people actually wanted to take them home and reuse them. I personally never saw any of them thrown. There were some product samples, but they were of high quality and utility that they were not just in the trash. For example, La Roche Posse sunscreen samples, in my opinion, I have used some of the best that I’ve ever used and had a good size for travel.

Meanwhile, people were allowed to bring water bottles, and the filling stations were much easier than waiting in line to buy water. I noticed that more and more people use more refill bottles than buying bottles. Plastic water bottles were still available from Evin, but they were made of 100 % recycled pets. Instead of buying a $ 7-9 cost, he also encouraged to recover. Recycling receptions were also viable, and municipal recycling in New York City.

Commercial and clothing

Beyond recycled water bottles, some goods were also made from recycled plastic. In addition, the polo branded hair staff was made from recycled plastic. I assume (or at least hope) that this uniform was comfortable, because the hair staff had to stand in the hot sun for hours at a time. Recycle plastic products are important, as it builds a market and increases the possibility that the items set up for plastic recycling are in fact recycled, rather than eliminating waste rivers. Going forward, it would be great to see that more plastic items are being offered.

Electric vehicles

Although most NYC is the use of an electric vehicle, the subway train is, Cadelic had only electric vehicles. Clearly, he was taking a page from Tesla’s playbox to make his four -letter acronym. They did not make the environmental aspect to the maximum extent, and many people were surprised to know that the vehicles they were seeing were EVs. I sat down in a huge ~ 155,000 scalp IQ. Although this type of vehicle is not personally and undoubtedly the most efficient EV on the road, it is largely irrelevant to me, but the saving of emission should be of importance compared to a similar large -scale ice vehicle.

The final views

After being killed for the day of qualifying matches, we stopped to flush Main Street to catch some Vietnamese food. During dinner, I asked a friend who was with us who thought about green measures at the US Open. He had no idea who I was talking about. When I went through a few different aspects, the answer was that he just understood and if you didn’t look for it, it was not worth noting.

Green measures were probably the most impressive part of the process. Environmental effects were being reduced while the experience was made better and easier. He did not try to attract large -scale attention and did not come as a green washing. When you thought about it, it just understood, but you don’t have to think about it.
