The ruler of the Inca people, known as the Sapa Inca, held a unique and important position. The title “sole emperor” in Quechua indicates his unique role as sole Inca ruler.

The Inca conquest of the northern kingdom of Chimu (Chimur), beginning around 1470, had a significant and far-reaching impact on Inca government and society. The political power of the Sapa Incas increased significantly, changing the balance of power in the region.
This conquest centered on the coastal regions of northern Peru and Ecuador and was of great importance in Inca history. The integration of Chimú territories and cultural practices into the Inca Empire greatly changed and strengthened Inca society.
