Unless homo fluorescence was detected, scientists assumed that the evolution of human lineage was defined by the big and large brains. Through a process called enlisition, the human brain is relatively more widely developed, which can be expected on the basis of physical size.
This proportion is the same mind that humanists argued that we and our relatives have enabled to perform more complex tasks, such as fire, counterfeiting and running tools, making art and domestic animals.
But these ideas had to be thrown out of the window when archaeologists announced in 2004 through a scientific publication of our Co -Cozen Homo Floresis. Homo fluorescence was partially compatible with our own species in Indonesia’s rains about 700,000 to 60,000 years ago.
Properly nicknamed Hobbs, Homo Fluorisans were short phrases, just 3 feet (1 meter) long, and it had a champion size brain. The discovery has promoted the assumption that the size of the brain has been increasing over the past several million years and has been confused that the recent human relatives in our jeans homo separate from our ancient ancestors.

We are a professor of humanity at Western Washington University. After attending the 2023 workshop for biological experts studying young people in the foam record, we began to look at brain -shaped changes in human evolution.
Our previous work on the bearded teeth has created new insight into the evolution of pregnancy, which shows that fetal growth is firmly associated with the proportion of beard in the premises. Now, we wanted to see if we could expose the relationship between dental proportion and brain size to our fierce relatives.
Experts are only limited to scalletal content, sometimes there are only a few teeth, including many ghasam species, including homo fluoresins. If the dental ratio can provide information on the size of the brain, it opens up the possibility of ghost changes in encephalitization.
Re -forming brain size using teeth
We have collected data about the tooth and brain size for 15 fountain species on the human family tree, which covers about 5 million years of evolution. To some extent oximronically, the third beard – otherwise is known as the tooth of wise – for most species, the ratio of mental size in the brain size is reduced.
Overall, relatively large wisdom toothpasters are more ancient and their brains are smaller. Recent taxes, such as homo -nendrotalins, were relatively smaller than their other teeth and large brains.
This relationship allows researchers to know something about the brain size for fossils that are incomplete, perhaps only a few lonely teeth. Since the teeth are mainly made of unnecessary substances, they live much more in the foam record than other parts of the body, which gives the majority of the most exported substances. Being able to learn more about the size of the brain with just a few teeth is a really useful tool.
Scientists have now recognized that the formation of the brain and teeth during pregnancy is controversial. And most of the species are related to the larger, the big brain, the teeth of small wisdom.
Homo Jeans is a discount Homo Fluorisans, The Hobbit. Hobbs’ wisdom teeth are small for other beards. Common pattern for Homo Jeans members. But their brains are small, which is quite extraordinary.
There are two basic ways to reduce the size of the brain: by reducing growth during pregnancy or during childhood, by reducing the growth after birth. Since the teeth develop in the early pregnancy, reducing the growth rate during pregnancy affects the shape and size of the teeth, or even the teeth develop exactly. Later, during childhood, slowing growth, affects the shape and size of the skeleton in other ways, as different parts of the body develop at different times.
Our new research provides evidence that the physical size of homo fluorescence is less than childhood growth in childhood, lower body homo -ancestors. Hobbs’ small wisdom teeth suggest that, at least in utero, they were on the way for proportional brains that are trademarks of humans and their relatives. Any breaks that slowed down the brain growth were likely after birth.
In fact, this is the same method by which the modern human population of some short class has adapted to its local environmental conditions.
To be small on the islands
The small body size of homo fluorescence was probably compromised by the unique conditions of their island environment on Forns Floors.
Preparing the size of the small body as an adaptation to stay on the isolated island is known as insular nanzum. In the last 60 million years, there have been many examples of the smallest of other stars on the islands. But one of the most relevant examples, a dwarf elephant, Stagdan Sondari, who lived on the floors and was hunted by H. Floresins to eat.
Homo fluorescences and homo Luzonins, another short -lived, islands from Southeast Asia, have been developed due to the environmental impact of possibly limited food availability and lack of large hunters, which are characterized by island residences.
Since the size of the brain and the physical size are firmly connected, the physical size evolution naturally affects the mental evolution. In modern humans, big people have big brains, and small people’s minds are small.
But people with small brains are no less intelligent than people with big brains. Variation in body size commands the size of the brain. This is not a measure of academic ability. The island’s hobbies developed tools, hunt mass the theme game in the form of pigs elephants, and possibly made and used.
Our research supports that their physical small size has begun slowly in childhood. But this process probably has little effect on mental function or academic ability. We speculate that the hobbs were small but extremely capable.
Understand our evolution
Our study reinforces the importance of understanding how new research, pregnancy and development of children develop and development. If we want to know how humans distinguish our evolutionary ancestors, and how we are ready, we should understand how the early moments of life have changed and why.
Our job also encourages re -evaluation of endless focus on increasing mental size because human evolution is an important force. The other species in Homo Jeans were small, but it is likely that we were not much different.
